“Hey Mark, I have a book idea and I think you should be my co-author”.
I must admit that I was both excited and honored, but also nervous when Amazon thought leader Kiri Masters proposed to me that we should write a book together. I had never attempted to author a book before as I have always been focused on growing my businesses and sharing my knowledge and experience to my clients and employees directly, or through my own social channels to my business network. Now, maybe the time was right for me to put my self out the and partner with Kiri to share our knowledge with the world.
The timing is right for the topic we chose, as Amazon is incredible complex. It is now much more than just an online retail marketplace, it is also a formidable marketing platform and a fast growing ecosystem of online properties, bricks and mortar, consumer content and experiences, consumer and business innovations, all of which are becoming embedded across modern culture and society in some way or another.
It also made complete sense for Kiri and I to co-author a book aimed at helping senior executive navigate Amazon and unlock it’s potential. Kiri has extensive experience on the ecommerce and retail side of the equation as the CEO of Bobsled Marketing, whilst my own expertise spanning across brand building and innovation for corporations globally.
Since we kicked-off the process it has been a huge learning experience for me, not just around how to write and publish a book in the modern era, but I have learnt way more about Amazon than I was expecting. We interviewed a few dozen top marketing and ecommerce executives from a wide variety of industries and companies of difference sizes and stages of the Amazon journey. The insights they shared have helped me as a marketing practitioner, advising clients how to leverage all of what Amazon has to offer, now and into the future.
